"Darkness"
January 11, 2005

When the power goes out in the early morning and you wake up, it is
extremely dark.  You open your eyes and there is nothing.  Just black.  No
reflected light from the hallway, no blinking of the tiny green LEDs in your
stereo, just nothing.  Hardly even the moon, most likely, because the power
goes out during a storm usually and if the moon was out during that time,
it'd get covered by the clouds.  You might even think you were dead
because of the darkness, until the pitter-patter of leftover raindrops echoes
in your ear awhile.  And then you put your hand in front of your face, and
it's still black, but you can feel it.  You know then that you're just in bed, in
the darkness.

Too bad.  It could be really cool if you were out of your mortal body or
something, but you're not.
